Scout XP897
Hi,
I have a picture of Scout AH1 XP897 in 1978 with the badge of the "siren of Warshaw". Did it belong to 651 or 654Sqn?
Regards
Pelomino

I was an aircrewman at 651sqn in Verden from late '76 until we moved to Hildesheim in '79. XP897 does not appear in my log book - it may well be from 654, unless it was the cab that sat in the hangar that was used as a xmas tree. I can give you a list of all tail numbers that feature in my log book if you need them. I'll dig out my photo albums on Sunday - should be a fair few from the above mentioned period including a tour of NI in '78.

I was the duty "Crab" on exchange to 651 Sqn from 73 -77 - and most enjoyable it was too!
Just had a look through my logbook for some tail numbers: XW 796, XP 897, XV 136 and XV 129 were 651's Op Banner cabs at Omagh this time in 1974. How time flies!
Paco, I think I've guessed who you are. All the best.

Thought it rang a bell. One of 669's that didn't get involved in Airtpr Pat Braim's attempt to demonstrate that AVTUR doesn't burn.

Circa 1976 at Soest the bowser driver (tankie) was spotted standing on top of the 10,000 gall bowser with the manholes open and a fag on.
Later same guy spotted under same working on it with a fag on. RTU
Clearly Pat was not alone in believing fuel doesn't burn.

After Pat's short incarceration in a small barracks near Colchester, he returned to life as a civilian.
Sort-of.
He was soon back in uniform with Humberside Fire & Rescue.

The article about the Army Air Corps in Germany mentioned by Pelomino has moved to a new location and is now available in (what we hope is) english: Army Air Corps in Germany | QRA Magazin. If someone has any additions we would really appreciate it when you leave some comments over there.
As the flight activities at Gütersloh (which houses the last AAC units in Germany) will stop before the end of 2013 the story about the AAC in Germany will soon come to an end.
