PPRuNe Offline Nov 11 2012: Apology

Internet Brands wish to offer their apology for the extended "downtime" experienced on PPRuNe during the day of November 11th 2012.

In a new initiative which had been approved by our management team, we had planned to "freeze" the site for 2 minutes at 11am yesterday in tribute to Remembrance Day. During the 2 minute interval the entire site was to depict an animated graphic of floating poppies.

Sadly, a staff member belonging to an internationally based technical support company we use to assist our operations, made an input error whereby instead of inserting 00:02 he actually inserted 20:00 resulting in a 20 hour denial of access to the site during which the poppies did not appear.

PPRuNe deeply regrets any inconvenience which may have been caused to our members by this error and plans to do everything possible to avoid such outages in the future.

Just goes to show how big the debt PPrune thinks is owed to those who left their lives on our behalf.

Regardless of the input error, the Remembrance Day, Armistice Day, Veterans Day sentiment is greatly appreciated. Thank you....

Just to be clear, neither Savoia nor his/her post represents Internet Brands, but we do appreciate the humor and intent behind the post, as well as the significance of Remembrance Day.

In truth, the downtime was caused by a similar error concerning incorrect entry of data into a form field, thereby causing database issues. We've fixed the issue and indeed are apologetic about the downtime incurred.

To prevent further misunderstanding, we're closing the thread, but are leaving it up for the enjoyment of all.
