I read somewhere that Eurocopter Canada were offering the EC135 as replacement for the CCG BO105 fleet.

However others in the mix

Unhappy

They have been trying to replace them last 10 - 12 years.

There is little will to do it and less money.

God help Canada if their government run this shambles as well as they have with previous incarnations: EH101 / F35 / Cormorant CH149 / Cyclone CH148

They will probably demand that it is a new Eurobell S968 fly by light, coaxial, long ranger with haul down cabability. 15yr gestation period with penalties for 10yr overdue dates. And the good news is that it will only cost the tax payer: $100 trillion each.

It would be a good bet that Bell 429/412 deliveries five years from now would be completed before the Cyclones if those continue their current pace.

I started at MBB Canada about half way through the first program , I recall the last program they could have bid on ( 412 ) was also given to bell without any competition. I guess the airbus scandal is still colouring some of the procurement decisions.

Bell Offered the 429.

MBB tried to fit what they thought CCG needed with the EC135. If they had gotten certification for the EC145T2 then it would have been a totally different ball game.

CCG does not have any 412's

We'll see what the next round delivers.

I think there will be many problems as always with a new type and hopefully nothing disastrous. I can see many weak areas with the 429 for this type of operation, but as long as the Pilots are happy with their new office, well......

Canadian Coast Guard

For once the Canadian Government held OEM's feet to the fire and required proven performance criteria in their replacement of an aging fleet of BO's. The only OEM who could actually deliver was Bell Helicopter - A Canadian Company. End result... Eurocopter Sues and the Canadian Taxpayers are screwed again. Cry babies.

Me thinks Eurocopter should take money away from their legal department and give it to the customer support side

That way they might gain a little credibility in this industry

It's OK, give them the Bells, if they manage this program the same way as every other helicopter program in the last 20 years they'll be due for a replacement even before they enter service.

So they have two choices.

Change the ship heli-decks, while they are still in the design stage, so that they can take heavier machines......

Or, take 412's from Bell and always leave 900 pounds of people and/or fuel behind.

Mind you, why would you ever want lots of fuel in a ship based helicopter????

I'm thinking, giving the Canadian Govt's track record, that 412's are probably going to be coming. And then not, and then coming again, and then not, and then maybe, but should we run the competition again just to be sure??
