UK 1:500 or 1:250 Chart for iPhone
I’ve been searching for a UK VFR chart for my iPhone. This is just for general pre-flight use (in pub/train/etc). I don’t want to use it for navigation/GPS etc – just for general “what if / where is it” use on iPhone only (not iPad).
All I need is to see the chart - maybe distance measurement if it had it.
Any ideas, I haven’t found anything yet?

whether you want to use it for GPS or not your best bet is to download it through one of the nav programs. I'd suggest AirNavPro as the best option - Memorymap is useless as an interface (I tried giving them feedback a few years ago before AirNav was running and they weren't remotely interested).
AirNavPro does all the tasks of MemoryMap but better, and loads more. There are probably other options but it makes buying/downloading the charts nice and easy from within the app and should you chose to use it as a backup for nav at some point then your set too. (I think it's pretty cheap, and ff you buy it for iPhone I believe you can also get the charts and app duplicated on your iPad if you have one for free so long at it uses the same iTunes account)

Will look at AirNavPro.
I have also given up on MemoryMap. Coincidentally, I have previously purchased all the UK charts from them. However, don't want to waste half a day hacking/reverse engineering to get them into my iPhone.

Glad it's not just me, MemoryMap have no idea... AirNav is good, and nice to have on the iPhone as a last backup - on the iPad it's got me to the Alps and back and all over the UK without hitch.

RunwayHD is a good find. I never clicked on it in the App Store (due to it's name) as I assumed it was for runway numbers - ie people that can't add/subtract 180 degrees. Thanks

I don't work for Airbox (runway hd ((the app))) before anyone makes comment,
But have to say, I have tried most apps, have had or have most upto date let's call them sat nav,s for flying....
Garmin, flymap, Airbox etc.... And have to say by far the Airbox wins, superior support, and simple to use,
It knocks the spots off everything else, and with development being carried out daily, you can expect updates with more goodies on a regular basis,
Ask / tell the guys what you would like to see or would like it to do and hey presto.......
Enjoy...

How does Airbox compare to SkyDemon - I don't use SkyDemon because although it's very good, it's pricy compared to what I use which does suffice very well, but skydemon does Notams, 3d Airspace awareness, RA(T)s etc. It's a great bit of kit, sounds very similar to Airbox... Looking in the app store SkyDemon wins with regards to the user interface - it's a very slick piece of software, but pricy subscription.

There are several threads on 'portable device' software for VFR flights on PPRuNe, including this one in the Private Flying Forum.
Personally, I use Sky Demon and (particulalry with the latest update last week), it's extremely impressive.
