Ear ache anyone?
Hi all,
Does anyone have any experience (good/bad) with Grommets whilst flying?
I've heard that sometimes when the grommet comes out it can leave a hole in the eardrum, anyone ever experienced this?
Any info much appreciated!

No ear ache. just eye strain reading all the dribble on here. 
Sorry Comapny Man, only experience is with the youngest boy. He had grommets when a young child and suffers when flying as a passenger on normal airline flights.

Grommets and perforations
Do not worry if you have grommets – very small ventilation tubes that
are inserted in the eardrum to treat conditions such as glue ear – or
perforated eardrums as a result of infection or injury. In either case,
flying is actually less of a problem than if the eardrum is intact. This is
because any change in pressure can be equalised across the eardrum

I had grommets about 15 yrs ago. Absolutely no problems with flying. They come out on their own after a year or so, but the eardrum heals up very quickly. Having had persistent problems with difficulty clearing my ears, the grommets did of course fix that when they were installed, but the effect persisted and I no longer have the problem.
I do recall a brief period of pain as one of them was coming out, but went to see the doc and he extracted it with tweezers (or whatever).
