Chinese AW139 Missing !!!

August 17th, 2011 an AW139 aircraft went missing into a reservoir in a

northern suburb of Beijing (China), with five people aboard.

Actually looks like a Beijing Municipal Public Safety Bureau CA109 (AW109E Power). Two confirmed fatalities, two missing at time of last report.

Police helicopter crashed reservoir

Hovering at low altitude before falling

Yesterday afternoon, the scene of the water has been calm, while several boats on the water is still searching.

A crew rescued

Four people are missing after a police helicopter crashed into a reservoir in a northern suburb of Beijing on Wednesday morning, Beijing police said.

Five crew members were aboard the helicopter that was returning from a rescue drill above the mountainous region of Miyun County that ended at 9:12 a.m., the Beijing police said in a statement.

As of 1:30 p.m., one crew member has been saved while the rescue of four others is still under way, according to the statement.

Actually AgustaWestland sent out a letter confirming it was a AW139.

"The purpose of this letter is to inform that on the morning of August 17th, 2011 an AW139 aircraft went missing into a reservoir in a northern suburb of Beijing (China), with five people aboard.

Search and rescue activities looking for the helicopter were started immediately.

AugustaWestland is working closely with the Operator and the relevant Authorities involved to support the investigation of the event."

Any idea what the cause was? Chinese media have been very quiet about it as normal.

When are the AW139 fleet going be grounded as 5 accidents aready this year and only Brazil fleet on the ground?

ES, maybe because Chinese aircraft accident investigation ain't so open and public as we're used to 'in the West'? Interested to see some preliminary report, too.
