FB Heliservices redundancies follow DHFS student lay offs
As the military rotary aircrew pipeline slows down to a bare trickle, FBHeliservices named the 13 people being made redundant at Shawbs and Devils Island today.
1 QNHI, 4 QHCIs (2 from SARBoy kindergarten) and 8 QHIs (2 from Griffin, 6 from Squirrels) were informed of their fate. Our thoughts go to them in this uncertain time.

Rumour from the engineers is the 2 newest Bell 412s 'oscar and kilo' will be sold. Read in to that what you wish and the obvious knock on effect on support staff.

If/When the current contract DHFS expires on 31 Mar 2012 the ratio of Civ to Mil instructors is probably going to change from the present 40/60 to 25/75.
There are strong rumours though that this could be bolstered to 100% mil as Tranch 2 of the service redundancies has been deferred and the flying rate has markedly reduced.

Until in 6 months to a year we suddenly realise we are short of pilots

Redundancy all done and dusted then; desks cleared, kit handed in and clearance chits signed. Good luck in your next venture guys.
What does the future hold for FBH as a whole within the MOD now with a vastly reduced military helicopter force?
It is scarily quiet at Shawbs.
Also the management has stopped it's company pilots using or hiring the a/c for CAA checks (IRs etc) as part of their own SCT. The military can still use them though.
