Canadian Helicopters Purchases HNZ
Interesting to see what will happen next with the 2 companies but looks like CHL is expanding globally. Who knows we may see them take on CHC in the near future. 
MONTREAL - Canadian Helicopters Group Inc. (TSX:CHL.A) plans to buy New Zealand's largest helicopter owner and operator for $120 million in a deal the Montreal transportation services company called "transformational."
The purchase of Helicopters (N.Z.) Ltd., or HNZ, expands the Canadian company's presence to a part of the world where it sees future growth.
The deal Tuesday includes the shares of Helicopters (Australia) Pty Ltd. and other active subsidiary companies, as well as the assets of Helicopter Nominees Ltd.
The transaction will be funded from cash on had as well as bank debt, CHL said.
HNZ, based in Nelson, N.Z., is that country's largest helicopter owner with 55 years of operating history throughout New Zealand, Australia and Asia. It has 181 employees, a fleet of 33 helicopters and annual revenue of about C$62 million.
The company operates throughout New Zealand, Australia and Southeast Asia, and has more than 30 years of experience in Antarctica.
Its customers range from offshore oil and gas exploration companies and miners to governments, emergency services and the military.
Don Wall, president and chief executive of CHL, said Canada's largest helicopter services operator is pleased with the deal.
"The acquisition of HNZ represents a transformational investment for CHL and in a part of the world that complements CHL's activities in the Northern Hemisphere. Acquiring HNZ will assist in providing greater stability as it extends the arm of CHL's existing operations in Canada, the United States and Afghanistan."
"CHL believes that the transaction will create a number of achievable synergies, including with respect to insurance costs and the seasonal movement of helicopters to maximize utilization," the company added.
For Canadian Helicopters, the deal also broadens the company's revenue. For example, HNZ's Antarctic expedition and fire-related services are provided from December to April, a slow seasonal period for the Canadian company.
"HNZ has grown from a local New Zealand based company to an internationally respected operator involved in all aspects of helicopter operations." said HNZ's CEO Brian McDonald.
"We welcome the opportunity to continue to maintain our high level of quality services and continue to grow and enhance the business . . . in the future through Canadian Helicopters' ownership."

The company serves emergency medical services, infrastructure maintenance programs, utilities, the oil and gas industry, the forestry, mining and construction industries.
It also operates two flight schools, provides third party repair and maintenance services in Canada and the United States and provides military support in Afghanistan.

Probably take a bit of figuring out if this still exists.
Maybe a few management changes and deja vu for a few existing employees of HNZ.

Pilot opportunities now that CHL have taken over HNZ?
So has any information or speculation come to light as to what will happen with the take over and the pilots currently employed by HNZ? Are CHL going to put in place their own pilots or are they going to keep hold of the pilots currently in place looking after HNZ's current contracts?
How will this affect new pilots in Australia and NZ and the industry in these regions?
So many questions.... anyone got any idea or answers? I mean they're fair questions to ask being the state of the industry to date.

Why would anybody replace the pilots already in place with HNZ?-Pilots that have already been doing the work and running the base's
And why would you bring in a bunch of Canadians that would require work visas, Australian or NZ pilot licences, then either provide them with somewhere to live or tour them from Canada.
CHL haven't become a world class operation by being dumb.

CHL haven't become a world class operation by being dumb.
They already bring Canadian crews and machines in during the Fire season to help the Aussie....hmmmm Kiwis they have on staff in Australia, so if they manage to keep the fire contract nothing should change.
Sitting at Langley, BC are two B412s and two AS350s of HNZ, still wearing their New Zealand registrations.
So maybe this means employment opportunities for Kiwi/Aussie pilots in Canada this summer?

(“Canadian Helicopters”) (TSX: CHL.A, CHL.B), an international provider of helicopter transportation and related services, announced the filing of the business acquisition report (“BAR”) relating to its acquisition of the assets of Helicopters (N.Z.) Limited (including the shares of Helicopters (Australia) Pty Ltd. and other active subsidiary companies) as well as the assets of Helicopter Nominees Limited (collectively “HNZ Business”) (the “Transaction”), as required by applicable Canadian securities laws. The closing of the Transaction was previously announced in a press release dated July 7, 2011.
The BAR includes unaudited proforma condensed consolidated financial statements which were prepared using information from the audited and unaudited consolidated financial statements of Canadian Helicopters and the HNZ business as at and for the year ended December 31, 2010 and the unaudited interim consolidated financial statements of Canadian Helicopters and the HNZ business for the six months ended June 30, 2011. The BAR also includes the audited combined financial statements of the HNZ Business for the year ended June 30, 2011.

HNZ commences offshore contract for Shell in Philippines

HNZ recently embarked on the first flight of a multi-year contract in the Philippines in support of the Malampaya Deep Water Gas-to-Power Project. The AW139 helicopter is contracted to Shell Global Solutions International B.V. to provide crew change helicopter services from Manila and Puerto Princesa to Shell’s offshore petroleum platform.
