Helicopter operation in Greek Islands

Would be very grateful for any advice with regard to the following:

UK Registered Helicopter - Yacht Based
July / August 2011 - Greek Islands

Do we need a special permit to operate on / off the yacht to airport sites
Is there Jet A1 available at Astipalaia / Santorini / Paros / Naxos

With regard to Jet A1 my initial research shows no fuel but if anyone can assist with answers it would be much appreciated

Thanks in anticipation

Have you tried asking Starspeed?

I'm sure that they can probably tell you everything you need to know. Maybe in exchange for a small, er, 'consultancy fee' that is, of course.

All this information is in the public domain; seeing as you're taking the fees, do the work. If you can't, leave it to those that can!

Will help for money.

Have been "yacht based" for about 12 years.

Permit to operate off yacht? It's Greece - No.

All in the public domain - got Jeppesen Bottlang?

Got Jeppesen NavData GPS.

Charts are difficult for Greece. With the above and WAC or ONC or TPC you are "legal".

Stay clear of the IFR routes and look out for the military. Lots of joint use CIV/MIL means CIV = Airlines not you.

Watch out for crazy opening and closing times. NOTAM.

Try here for a heads up.

Just like the lingo everything is a bit mysterious in .gr. Find someone who knows the scoop i.e. local operator. Generally pretty helpful.

In and out of LGAV - Elefthérios Venizélos, Athens to you and I, is a little tedious.

FLT PLN required for all flights in Greece. NVFR no.

Handler required nearly everywhere major.

Jet - LGPL - maybe not - go to Kos.
LGPA - probably not.
LGSR - how much do you want - plenty
LGNX - NO

This is where having 10K litres on board is your friend!

Don't expect too much and you will not be disappointed!

.
If your office cannot arrange this then there are certainly those who will make an attempt.

As RVDT alluded, things in Greece are rarely as straight forward as one would hope for. If you do need assistance then Starspeed have already been mentioned. There is also Heli-Yacht International-|- Helideck Training Full Service Helicopter Yacht Integration and Management - Heli-Yacht International-|- Helideck Training Full Service Helicopter Yacht Integration and Management who provide a 'Permit Procurement and Logistics Support' service (although I think their experience is mainly with the western med) and then there are a small number of local operators who may also offer such support if you 'ask them nicely' if you know what I mean. One such company is: Helicopter Greece - HeliAlpha Helicopterservice

Please take some photos of your adventure and post them on the http://www.pprune.org/rotorheads/429...interests.html thread - we'd love to see them!
