Just to be a bit more specific the ground school exam can be done at Flight Safety International at Farnborough, and to confirm Adam House (Book Early to avoid disappointment, he is very very busy) is the only FAA approved Examiner for Europe. This is the route I took some 16 months ago.
In addition the Dauntless Checkride Exam prep is excellent and very good value.
FAA Written Test Preparation - Commercial Pilot
Good Luck
Oh and you can get fingerprinting done at Oxford too now

Thanks Guys, very helpful.
If you already have a CAA PPL(H) plus some hours can you get exemption from any of the FAA training schedule or do you have to do it all again from scratch? Is there a night flying requirement for the FAA PPL(H) as I believe there is for its fixed wing equivalent?

Read This Then come back and ask questions---it may be easier.

I think technically it is for Craps Sake , these are two individual words whereas you make americanised them by joining them together . Thats not the british way you know
Now pedantic ...that is a good use of the word and spellt corecktly ...

FAA licenses do NOT expire.
Due to your spelling, I was unable to determine if you hold a UK PPL, and based your US license on it. Assuming you hold a "standalone" US PPL then this answer applies. If this is not the case, you will need to re-validate your UK license first BEFORE accomplishing the FAA portion.
All you need to have is a current FAA medical certificate, and accomplish a flight review required by FAR 61.56. (Relevant portions highlighted)
