In 2012 when the new s92's come is it known how many will be acquired? Including any floating back up machine?

CHC Ireland Industrial Problems

The SAR provider in Ireland CHC is currently experiencing industrial problems on a number of key issues with its staff including a major insurance cover issue. I heard from a mate of mine that the staff balloted for all forms of industrial action last Friday and they are currently in dispute.

Ballot for Industrial Action

Given that Ireland Inc. is on its knees, others losing their jobs etc...You would think everything would be great in CHC Ireland with a big fat juicy contract, new aircraft, state employment (effectively) for next ten to thirteen years!!



So, whats the problem in CHC? It doesn't add up!

Any word on the result of ballot?

From what I hear, the problems mostly originate from their HR people.

Ireland signs SAR contract with CHC

The Minister for Transport Mr Noel Dempsey, T. D. today signed the contract awarding the provision of Helicopter SAR services to CHC Ireland. Transition to the modern helicopters will start in July 2012, and will run for ten years; with an option to extend for a further three years on a year by year basis. It represents a marked improvement in the capacity, range, speed and capability of Ireland’s search and rescue service.

Does this not put the pressure on the British Government to decide on SAR-H because aren't the interim Scottish Coastguard S-92s going to be used for this once their current contract expires?

Why should it put any pressure on the UK government at all? They are not the instigators of any plan by CHC to shuffle their own aircraft about as they see the need for their other contracts. The UK customer will be entirely (and only) concerned about CHC meeting the specific requirements and transition schedule of the SAR-H contract and its timings (which are probably (in reality) slipping as we write.
If CHC have taken a risk in offering the Irish some ac that are coming off another contract, then the Irish customer should have sussed this and have either accepted some potential delay, or will no doubt be getting upset soon with CHC if they fail to deliver in accordance with the Irish contract.
That all said, I have little doubt that CHC will be lobbying the UK customer to get on with its decision to minimise its potential exposure with the Irish.

CHC: S92 aircraft

CHC already have orders in place for new aircraft, I would be very surprised if they had issues regarding 'shuffling' aircraft around from the Shetlands to Ireland to honour contractual obligations.

Im sure things will become much clearer once an announcement is made by the coalition government regarding SARH in the UK. Which I have heard will be in the next few weeks.

Busy season for Irish rescue copters

THE IRISH Coast Guard’s search and rescue helicopter network has said this summer is proving to be one of its busiest seasons on record.

Some 51 missions were flown in July from the four bases at Shannon, Sligo, Dublin and Waterford, and activity continued into August with eight missions during the past five days alone.

This week’s missions include last Monday evening’s call-out, when the Coast Guard’s Shannon and Waterford helicopters were tasked to search for the crew of the Fastnet race competitor Rambler 100, after it capsized several miles south of Fastnet Rock off the west Cork coast.

Shannon helicopter winch team Ciarán McHugh and Colm Hillary administered paramedic treatment to one of the 21 crew, Wendy Touton — partner of yacht owner and US multimillionaire George David. She was severely hypothermic when taken from the water by Baltimore dive boat Wave Chieftain, and was treated in Kerry General Hospital in Tralee before being discharged.

Tuesday proved hectic, with the Sligo helicopter deployed to assist in several mountaineering accidents in Co Mayo, including that of a climber who sustained a leg injury on Croagh Patrick.

Also on Tuesday, the Shannon helicopter was deployed to search for a missing person below the Cliffs of Moher in Co Clare, and to assist five Italian tourists injured in a pony and trap incident on the Aran island Inis Mór who required hospital treatment in Galway.

On Wednesday, the Shannon helicopter was called to Kilkee, Co Clare, from where they flew a 67-year-old man to base, where he was transferred to an ambulance.

Also midweek, Shannon completed two medical evacuations in 24 hours from fishing vessels. An injured crewman was airlifted from the Nuvo Jundino, which had been fishing some 118 nautical miles west-northwest of the Blasket Islands, Co Kerry. Top cover was provided by the Sligo helicopter.

On Thursday, the Shannon team airlifted a Latvian fisherman with multiple chest injuries from the Achieve fishing vessel some 150 nautical miles west of Kerry.

Both medical evacuations were co-ordinated by the Valentia Coast Guard station, which played a key role in locating five missing among the 21 crew of the Rambler 100 on Monday evening – using US software and data provided by Co Clare meteorological company Nowcasting.

The Rambler 100 hull has been taken to Baltimore, Co Cork.

EI-CXS - Sligo


Saw 'CXS' at the Enniskillen airport 'fly-in' last weekend

The rest are CZN,MES,RCG and SAR.Not sure which base those operate from.

The S-61N in Norway might be EI-CNL, which was usually employed as the maintenance relief bird. I don't think it had the full SAR spec of avionics that all the regular (full-spec) Irish machines have.

Yes, Sav, the current SAR fleet in Ireland is comprised of S-61Ns only.

It is an all 61 fleet in Ireland. GCE Is also part of that fleet. There is a cab in Norway at the mo having a "D" check done.

S61 in SVG

Aircraft in Stavanger is EI-RCG and as far as I know is here for scheduled maintenance
It has been sitting outside with no rotors attached, I presume due to space constraints in Heli-One's hangar
Not sure of date it's due to travel back to Ireland
