i assume it is to save weight and fuel burn. Greatly reduces lifting capability though.

Maybe the engineer did some work on the machine whilst the pilot was filling up his coffee mug after he did his daily !!

Believe it or not but when you get a brand new rotor head is has to be Balanced. I only ever did it once, it was a very uncomfortable feeling, you had to be very careful with throttle movements as it was very sensitive due to the lack of inertia. Also once in the governing range it hunted like a Bast@#$.

Island Hoppers, Airwolf and Howling Mad Murdoch (A-Team) inspired me as a kid. 500s are serious machines and bags of fun....if only my piggy bank would stretch to one
