Bonding has been illegal in Canada since the 60s. Something to do with slavery The immigration website will have a list of desirable occupations. Some employers (actually customers) require minimum hours "in the province" whatever that means. Your FAA CPL can be used as the basis for a Canadian licence with a law exam of 40 questions, if memory serves (one side has more than the other). The authorities are well aware of adverts that are so specific that only one person can fill them. There was some way of fast tracking into Quebec if you're a native French speaker, but that may have passed on.

All anyone can advise is .... try! If your destiny is to be a heli pilot in Canada, then the only person who can take the first step is you. You will need some sort of specialisation, particularly a mountain course if you end up in BC (which stands for Bring Cash), and slinging. Also attitude - pilots wash the machines out there. You could try and immigrate on the basis of another qualification, which is what I did.

One tip - unless it's changed, in the season they will pay for your journey to work, so find where you want to live and rotate from there. Don't get a rental near the base, 'cos they will send you somewhere else

don't underestimate the cold. -30C on the meter and 30 knots of wind will re-educate you very quickly. Just sayin....

Thanks for the heads up. Looks like Canada is quite the expensive place but Germany is catching up at an alarming rate. Especially with fuel, heating and electricity skyrocketing right know. Also we pay some of the highest taxes worldwide here. Coupled with low income perspectives in my trade and long term outlook darkening (more and more red tape by EASA, general public up in arms against everything aviation related) for the aviation sector here I'd rather take my chances in Canada.

paco Thanks for all the good advice. I know that I have to make it happen and take that first step. Right now pilots are not in demand, according to the NOC list. That was different in 2019 AFAIK, before Covid came along. So getting that VISA right now through other occupations seems tricky since I "only" worked in sales before flying and I don't speak any French Scrubbing the hangar and washing the machine is pretty normal for me right now too. I'm doing that daily for the powerline inspection flights anyway, nothing new to me or special in any way.

I think right now it could only work if I have a concrete job offer, maybe that would make things happen, I'm not sure. Maybe it get's to the point again where the Government puts pilot jobs on that NOC list again so applying for a visa is more straight forward and the chances of success much greater.
If I'd been a truck driver for more than 1 year I could get a VISA in most provinces by the looks of it. Oh the irony

Sir Korsky Haha, I know what you mean. But I like the cold much more than the heat. The really cold winters here in Germany seem to be long gone but I've walked to the bus/ school in -25 as a kid. Sure it's cold but I guess the -20° and 30Kts is just a thing you have to deal with. I'd rather deal with that than all the BS that goes on here and knowing it's going to get worse
