Bristol Ground School & FAA ATPL Conversion (Again)
I am a 4000 hr + pilot FAA ATPL (H) with 1500+ hrs multi crew ifr etc etc.
I have decided to buy the Bristol GS modular course, complete the exams in 2010 then head off to HAI in Titusville to do the Cpl skills test.
So far so good..........
Once my Cpl licence is issued, am I constrained as to which member states I can do my IR training & skills test with?
Also, what additional costs should I expect with the modular ground school course (equipment & fees etc etc).

I have just finished mod 1 last week - Bristol were excellent - the brushup course is legendary for bringing people up to speed for the exams.
Not sure how the conversion works - but if you have to attend the 2 week brush up (per module) - accomodation is NOT included.....budget approx £500 for each 2 week period.
Reasonble calc, protractor and CRP5 are about the only pieces of kit..
Budget £50 for access to their question d'base....this is essential

With 4,000 hours I should hope the OP would be exempt the brush-up courses.
However, Flyingtonka, have you got .... CRP-5 (or similar) whizz-wheel, Jeppesen Student Manual, CAP 696/7/8 (which can be downloaded for free) and CAP413 (again, download for free).
I believe that you can take the IR course and exam in any JAA state but you may wish to check that with your issuing state.

You can do the IR training and instrument flight test (IRT) in any JAA member state but my advice would be doing it with Bristow at Glouscester airport. The price is reasonable and the training excellent.
Having an FAA IR you would need to fly a minimum of 15 hours for the IR (10 in the sim and 5 in the AS355) plus the IRT.
If you don't have the AS355 on your JAA licence when its issued you will need to do a type rating course but if you already have 500 hours logged on the 355 I think you could have this issued on your JAA licence without the type rating training (You need to confirm this though)
Have you read LASORS which is the UK CAAs equivalent of FARs.

For the helicopter stuff, don't bother with the CRP5. The E6 B is good enough and is approved (the print in the altitude windows is a LOT bigger). Having said that, you're doing interim, aren't you, so you may need one.
I still wouldn't get a CRP5, but rather the AFE ARC -2. My personal choice would be the Jeppesen CR series, but they're not to everyone's taste.

They arn't too cheap compared to the E6B but I figure I am going to need everything in Metric.
