If you click on the tabs at the top you can order it by salary - We come in forth which isn't too bad - Sandwiched neatly between Doctors (probably worth it) and Senior Government Officials .......... Hmmm, the less said about them, the better !

Photex

Would you care to share that average number with us?
It would be nice for those who are trying to make up their minds on if they should pursue an offshore IFR carrier rather than something else, to know this figure.

More than almost all mil SAR pilots could ever get.

Ah well, at least we can have faith that an accurate comparison has been made between the cost of the current SAR capability and the set-up which will replace it...

Knock about 20k off that for Offshore co-pilots. First year captain offshore will get about that!
I think it should be much more, IMO!

There's some dodgy maths in there, anyway - apparently some people (airline operatives I think it calls them) had a 18% pay increase in the last year.

Sounds like a nasty attack of garbage in - garbage out.

Must be hard getting by on a pittance like that. It really is a tough industry.

The unfair and unrealistic world of the oil & gas industry, eh? It's market-forces, plain and simple.

Breaking News

4:15pm UK, Wednesday April 01, 2009

Eight people have been killed and another eight are missing after a helicopter ditched in the sea off the north east Scottish coast, Sky sources say.
Mitchaa, could this sort of headline have anything to do with it? I dunno, I'm just a stupid taxi driver on an enormous salary....and grateful for every penny

Gotta agree with jonseagull and norunway here.

Not an offshore heli pilot - a mere air traffic controller - but I've seen the conditions they fly over a hundred miles offshore in. Pitch black, 3 degrees celcius, imc all the way, gusting 40knots isn't unusual, to then grope their way in on an airbourne radar approach to a lump of metal producing gas or oil with punters in the back.

Every job has their dangerous parts. Apache pilots I'm sure have their moments, but back at base when it's Monday 9am till Friday Lunchtime, with a sports afternoon and a two week paid up ski expedition to look forward to in a week or two. Each job has it's perks, each has it's downfalls. But to call offshore pilots glorified taxi drivers ... I think not.

There are Apache pilots far more skilled than any offshore pilot will ever be but yet earning half the amounts an offshore pilot will earn. Let's not kid ourselves here, offshore pilots are glorified taxi drivers, they turn and burn, wait on the passengers boarding, pull collective, advance cyclic, fly straight and level, and then land on a platform in the middle of the North sea, passengers get off, new 1's come on and then off again into the same old boring routine. You may get challenged a little when its dark, or there is a little bad weather but who doesn't get challenged in their jobs?
That makes about as good an argument as the following:
There are offshore pilots far more skilled than any Apache pilot will ever be, and their pay reflects that. Let's not kid ourselves here, Apache pilots are glorified tank drivers, they turn and burn waiting for a target, turn in and shoot and repeat all day long. You may get challenged when someone starts shooting back at you or you encounter a sand storm, but who doesn't get challenged in their jobs?

Funny how anything can be unfairly generalized eh?

The 2 skill sets couldn't be any further apart.
Agreed! Yet here you are belittling the entire offshore community with an argument that's too comical to take seriously.

The figure is really a fantasy for the UK at the moment. I used to hear of pilots being over healthy with the amount they were being paid, certain corporate boys down south. At the moment myself, I'm in military training in the middle east and are on more than this figure. Yet just got a job offer in saudi, pretty much the same what I do, yet for half the cash.
As for Apache and offshore boys, completely different skill sets needed.
Believe you me i have seen some monkeys fly the Apache about over here, non european I am refering to, and if they can do it it can't be to harder than playing on your Ps3.........

As a LAME my biggest whinge is the amount of tax I have to pay, in two countries in Australasia and not get any thing in return. Yes I have to admit right now pay is OK, but I bet most of you remember the days of low pay and the remark that the boys in the office had of being able to open a new box of mechanics when we complained.

I know quite a lot of people who would be reluctant to get out of bed for £73k, but they are mostly offshore and a few are corporate.

in fact more than you think are nudging £100k if you count TRE pay and overtime.

(come to think of it some of them actually arent very good at even turning up on time or getting there flights away on time, and I havent even mentioned being reluctant to fly and disguising it as "safety" or enthusiastic use of "sick" days.)

regards

CF
