Progression Twin Command

Hi

I have a question that some of you more experienced twin pilots may answer..

Now 52 years old, been flying commercially for last 10 years with ICAO CPL(H). mainly on Turbine single. Now in Offshore, S76c, managed to get P2 600 hours twin time with IR. TT is 3000...

To wait for P1 on S76C, would take another 2 years with no guarantee as I am employed on contract, and Nationals are ahead of me waiting in line for the next P1 vacancies; it also implies I would have to sit my local ATPL

I have the opportunity to convert to AS332, again as P2; it means another 2-5 years before I can even be assessed as suitable for P1

So my question lies with my age... should I stay as P2 ( had enough Command time on single) and enjoy myself until I retire, or go through the studies/expenses again to get the ATPL, and wait in line for a possible P1 slot??? I am based in the Southern part of the world btw

Cheers

WLM :

Im aware of a certain operator ( European ) who appears more than happy to offer P1 on a medium / Heavy twin after as little as 20 Hrs "ON TYPE" with the hours they have been flying that could take you nearly a week to ten days !!!!!!!!!!!

Then they wonder why accidents happen

This is a difficult one.
P1 is not only hours? It is attitude skills and experience.
Some pilots are very good with 1500 hr and after 2 winters, other need much more or are never suitable.

Do ATPL trigger yourself ,if your are suitable this rest will follow

good luck and try to enjoy P1 or P2

Tricky question that requires an answer from YOU not us. Take a good look in the mirror and be totally honest with yourself. Is your current salary and conditions enough to keep you happy until retirement? Do you go to work with a smile or a frown? How much effort will the studying take? What exactly do you hope to gain by being a captain? Will you resent being a P2 forever? What do you want from life?
Just before I left the military a lot of people were doing licences. Most left because they had endured enough and got jobs. A couple stayed in the mob and when I asked 'why did you waste all that time and money on licences?' they told me 'because everyone else was doing it'!!!!
There are many very happy career P2s in the aviation world, it suits THEM. Choose for yourself, not what others suggest you do

Think about it

Something that some thirty - odd years in the industry have told me:
"Today's goalpost is not tomorrow's goalpost".
So, if you're happy today ,take it one day at a time; if you don't like, use your "F...-off fund" and go elsewhere. Worked fine for me.

Thanks for the replies guys; yeah I am happy to stay P2 until retirement, money is good; to study and spend funds accordingly for a short p1 time on twins is pointless in my eyes now; had enough p1 on singles anyway
Cheers
