Freidie Manson

Great to see his picture. Remember when he joined as a labourer and used to ask if he could help out with Check A's. The world turned and there was his voice on the BBC, over the Braer in Quendale Bay. Good man. Hope he's well. Might have been EU we ferried to Miri, or AI ?

For all those retired in the south at least, 28th November at the Helicopter Museum in Somerset sees a Bristow get together to mark the launch of Alan B's autobigraphy with his widow,Heather and BOGS from the Redhill area.Room on the helipad for an S-92 from Sumburgh though !

It was G-BKAI which went to Miri in 1982 becoming 9M-SSJ. G-BFEU went to Australia in 1982 to become VH-WOD.

Hedski

Thanks for the kind words.

Is it just me or is there a touch of Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy) in that photo of Friedie!

Lynottesk ? Yeah, I'll go with that. The jar would've held poteen from the Quendale Manse. Now there was a vicar who knew what religion was really for. So did his daughter...

Here is a face from the past. Garry Williams was based in Sumburgh for many years & was senior winch op when I was there. I bumped into him in the Thistle Hotel (Formerly the Skean Dhu) a few years back. He was a little greyer otherwise hadn't changed at all.

That Islander must have made an interesting underslung load with a bit of forward speed. Don't suppose they gat more that a few knots out of it.

Yes it is, but did Gordon 'M'hat & M'coat' Mitchell fly the Puma? Certainly he flew the SK61N.

CCC

Can't remember whether Gordon flew the Puma but wasn't he the Sumburgh Chief Pilot around that time after Betty became Aberdeen GM?

The picture of Dave Winter, Alan Bristow and Gordon Mitchell was from a company brochure... I think they were relying on some "artistic licence" when they quoted "meeting Puma aircrew" as Gordon was S61 only.

Maybe that's why Dave is looking so angry !

Gordon was a Chief Pilot at Sumburgh, and subsequently moved onto Unst when Sumburgh Oil Support finished, eventually returning when SAR started.

S61-S92,

Have you got any more scans of that Bristow brochure? I got sent that years ago after asking BHL about a career as a helicopter pilot.
