Cool Rotorheads calendar September 2009

Darren Beaumont provided the photo for our September 2009 calendar, of an SAR S92 returning from a training sortie. It is one of two S92s based at Stornoway, which is one of the four MCA SAR bases and is on the Isle of Lewis, off the west coast of Scotland. Their area of operations cover the North Atlantic, and the Scottish Highlands.

As always, for Windows users click on the thumbnail to open a higher resolution full picture, and then right click to select “Set as Background”. Mac users should select the background via System Preferences.

Ideal for September or, in fact, for the 2009 British summer.

Cracking shot!

Thanks

I have to ask - has this pic been post processed? It's a great shot and I was wondering if the sky had been burnt in? That's not to take anything away from the shot as either way, post processing or not, it's been done really well!

Way beyond my editing capabilities I'm afraid. Picture was taken as a RAW image and apart from adjusting the contrast and the brightness, along with a some sharpening, that was all the editing done.

The contrast does bring out the dark clouds that were lingering around the island that day.

Is that fitted with two FLIR's, or is the second unit a night-sun or similar?

I don't see the picture to download. Can you try to reattach it again?

Thanks.
