Just heard that sadly Derek passed away today.

Was that Derek Blevins, ex-Royal Marines, ex-SOAF? If so I haven't run into him for more than 30 years.

Can anyone flesh out the obituary?

Afraid it is, his Obit hasn't been sorted out yet but no doubt it will be fairly extensive.
