Mmmmm ...
Think you'll find there is no "Australia Police Airwing" ... as such.
Each State police Service either has an "Airwing" or uses Chartered Aircraft as their individual needs require.
Police flying tends to attract the Ex-Mil pilots and as a result they often end up being "Ex-Mil old boys clubs" (which is often not a bad thing?) or you have to be "in the Job" and get then get in line for any vacancies that might occur.
Try the appropriate Police Service "home pages" of the state with which you might like to join.
Good Luck.

As per spinwing, no national airwing. Quick run down ( any one please correct if i'm wrong)
The Federal Police ( National- based in Canberra) use Helicorp aircraft under contract. (Bell 212/412).
Queensland- no choppers, has use of the state gov't fixed wing (VIP) aircraft if needed
NSW- Employs civilian/ direct entry pilots on police owned choppers (BK117 + AS350)
VIC- Choppers are CHC under contract but I believe the pilots/crew are police officers trained up
WA- Has in house fixed/ rotary wing (BK117+PC12) I beleive they take civilian /direct entry pilots.
Tas/ SA/ NT- not sure
Hope this helps,. We do have a vic pol pilot on the forum he may be able to provide better info.

Victorian Pol Air have 2 AS365N3 Dauphin, 1 SA365C1 Dauphin and 1 AS350B.
The AS350 is soon to be replaced by a EC135 and the SA 365C1 to be replaced with a new AS365N3.... or so we have been told.

VIC POL Airwing has mixture of ex-military and civilian direct entry pilots as well as ones that came up through the crewmen ranks. Never saw any ex-mil club mentally when I was there many years ago...not like some places up North....as in QLD

SA police use a EC130 in Adelaide, its based at Australian Helicopters at Adelaide airport, and works along side a B412 and BK117... which im sure they have access too but i think they are mainly rescue style setup
Im unsure who owns the machines they have state goverment funded project stickers, but not sure if they are being chartered by them

... but not very good at finding things...
Google is your friend:
NSW: Air Wing - NSW Police Force
WA: Police Air Wing
VIC: Victoria Police - Air Wing
Victoria Police Air Wing - Melbourne, Australia
South Australia's helicopters are owned and run by Australian Helicopters.

Who's been feeding you information ???
NSW Police have 7 Pilots, only 2 are ex military, both from over 25 years ago..
The rest are just knockabout bush pilots....
