Hi

The Insurance on my R44 is about to expire and i am looking for alternative quotes
I'm currently insured through Hayward Aviation Ltd but was wondering if there are any other good company's out there

i would like full cover except pilot life cover whether the rotors are in motion or not and a limited hour policy if avaliable

Thank you in advance for your help

AFAIK Haywards are the best and provide the most comprehensive cover.
If you do find a better one please let us know.
My machine is up for renewal in June and any savings will be appreciated!!

Have heard that Emery Little can get competitive quotes these days. Well worth looking around. www.insuring.aero Am told you have to provide good driver info for best quotes.

Try Besso in London. Frank Bannister from the aviation department has been in the industry for years and knows many of the underwriters well. He knows which underwriters to approach based on aircraft type, pilot experience and history etc. Although he may not necessarily produce the cheapest quote, if you ever need to make a claim, he's the guy I'd want in my corner. He works for the policyholder, not the underwriter!

In insurance, perhaps more than anywhere else, you really do get what you pay for.

Haywards dominate this end of the UK market.

They seem very good, but competition is healthy - especially for consumers.

I am not a RW jockey, prefer fixed wings and not wobbly ones! However we all need to buy insurance and what I have found out by calling around is that some brokers refer business to another. Simple questions: 1. Are you independant? 2. Who is the Underwriter (not the broker acting for the Underwriter)? 3. Is the Underwriter FSA aurthorised? 4. Is the broker FSA authorised? 5. Test their knowledge of the market and your type of insurance. 6. Service and price, the cheapest isn't the best. Happy hunting.

Jellycopter and SpeedbirdXK8 are on the money. There is no such thing as cheap cover, only reduced cover for less premium.

Hi guys

sorry for the late update
I reduced my policy by half to 6K per year by not flying more than 75 hours this year
single pilot only and reduce the hull value down from 230k to 180k as my machine is now 3 years old with 400 hours

A friend of mine has his R44 covered by the NFU (National Farmers Union), now farming is his main business, so he puts a fair bit of buisness their way and it may be a one off. But the rate was very competitve.

It may be worth a look.

Haywards ran amile when my engine ingested a piece of metal ( FOD does not cover a piece of the helicopter going through the engine !! ) They paid precisely £0 after many years of paying nearly £20k pa with no claims !!! I say beware all of them . If you want a proper deal you should get 20 -30 people together and self insure . ( I suggested this some time ago on pprune but i think a lot of ppruners are not owners so dont care about insurance rates ) If you self insured and had ,say2-3 years without a claim then you could all pretty much stop paying ANYTHING until someone breaks one . ps dont let in R22 boys who do training as they will F*** it up trying to do an eol .

hack that premium down to size

I just halved my premium by dropping hull value by 33%. In this market it may be an accurate estimate of used value - who knows?

Nigelh, great idea but...how could group self insurance provide the £5M or so third party liability cover we are required to have in place to land in some locations?

How much is that 3rd party liability insurance? I would have thought peanuts compared to the hull insurance? If so, then use Nigel's self insurance for the hull but regular 3pl insurance on top.
