SAR question - supply of marine orange smoke markers

Looking for a supplier of orange smoke markers. To be used for dropping at sea as a marker, aid in hoisting ops etc. Need a burn time exceeding 15 minutes.

Thanks,

Bone

AUSSAR use a MK3 orange smoke canister, but alas these only burn for about 3mins.

They are OK if you drop them upwind of your winch point though.

PainsWessex manufacture the orange smoke, I don't know who would retail them.

I would start with RFD marine. As 800 stated we got ours from AusSAR and they only last a few minute.

The white smoke flares last about 15 minutes but would be harder to get hold of.

Good luck

This is the one being discussed Pains Wessex :: Product's More Details :: Haven't seen 15 min burn time on any product.

Bone,

Suggest you speak with Peter Buckley from AMSA Training Resources. He has all the contact details for their supplier, as well as some with a lot longer burn time than three minutes. Also Australian Maritime Systems from Pinkenba in Brisbane should be able to help.

Cheers

If you are after such a long burn time then can I suggest the Mk25 marker Marine. These produce white smoke. The details of suppliers of these would also be available from AMSA. For an even longer burn time (40 - 60 mins) try the Mk58 Marker Marine, not sure if these are available in the civil world as I have only seen and used them in the military.

In answer to your original post, here are the orange smokes that we use but they don't burn as long as you specify.

Lifesmoke Mk5
Distress Signals Day

Hope this helps...

smoke float

15 min burn time, but you will have to speak to the manufacturer about activating it- they go automatically (15-30 seconds when last I tried one?) when removed from the stowage- so don't drop it!
