Is this as tight and impressive as it looks?

YouTube - crazy helicopter

it seems to get real tight in some places or is it a lot wider than it looks.

felt like you had to breath in on a few of the turns.

could an AS350 fit though the same run?

cheers,

clayton

Is that -

"Are we gonna make it between there?"
"Nope!"
"Oh ye of little faith!"

Splat!

25+ years ago, I made a few flights like that. I came realize to you can only fly like that so many times before the green wienie catches up to you. How many times exactly? Don't know. I just know flying has enough inherent risks without adding more unnecessary risk.

Coulda gone a couple of knots quicker if he ditched that useless orange box he has to carry around. Prolly wouldn't work in that river water or crushed against the steep sided rock gorge anyway.

I think that's an oldy anyhoo.

Reformed canyon flier

A decade ago, when I was stupider, I took a more experienced pilot for a run like that. Eager to show my 100 hours of prowess I was.

After the run he eyed me quizzically. "Have you ever thought", he asked, "what you will do the day you meet someone coming the other way"?

Might be as tight as it looks in the video, who knows?
Could I run a 350 through it? Why?
Impressive? Sorry, no. A lot of my living is paid by stupid people, just not impressed with lack of judgment, even if it was "fun" right up until the impact.

The cliche is "The superior pilot is the one using his superior knowledge and his superior judgement to avoid those situations that otherwise would require him to display his superior skill", and generally make it look easy. That impresses me.

This was apparently done in Canada and was discussed "at length" on the vertical forum.

Needless to say many of the comments werent complimentary.
