Episode of Lost last night
- just the same scenarion in the movie "planet terror"...killing zombies with the main rotor while flying extremely slow, but with big nose down attitude, just like in james bond at this asian marketplace. In james bond with an as350 and planet terror could have been a ch53 or similar. Still quite entertaining to watch.

I was very disappointed about the way the Chopper scene was shown in Lost. I guess it is hopeless to expect from Hollywood any reality about Aviation.
However, the series Lost is in my opinion an absolute must to see. Some of you guys were quite disappointed after just watching the first episode, but did you guys actually know what you were watching? Lost is ia mix between Fantasy/Science Fiction and Adventure. There is no way anybody can judge this show by just watching one episode and neither is it possible to just watch this show once in a while. It must be watched from the beginning to the end.

Confession time. I was tuck on a ship for 3 months and one of the guys brought the entire first series of Lost onboard. I sat and watched the whole lot from start to finish in one hit. Couldn't get enough. I could follow it. It was worth watching when there was nothing else to do.
After that, series 2 started to get silly then 3 and 4 are just unfollowable(is that a word?) and beyond ridiculous. the helicopter episode was just the final nail in the coffin.
The James bond 350 doing nose down in the market place was even more ridiculous. Not even Pete B could get it to do that.!!

now let me bring some things together for you guys:
I have worked for 14 years in the movie industry and fly choppers now.
-the sound is always used from a 205 because its the best slapping sound.
- the pilot is an actor -usually has no clue about how to touch the controls... the only thing that matters is to flip some switches, doesnt matter if for startup or before making a turn, a switch flip always indicates: action is taken now..... a little realistic stick shake doesn't show on the screen.
- engine failure: usually indicated by some smoke and a change in sound...enough to panic. how many movie minutes would it take to explain the principle of autorotative descent to the audience.... who cares.
- what is the drama in a high skilled pilot lowering the collective upon engine failure and descending down to a nice low flare for a power off ditching in the water.... pop out floats inflated?
drama is holding the stick with both hands, yelling at the passengers( engine gone quiet) and sweating and camera shaking and crashing...
to sum it up:
effect is better than realism.... because when it comes to the audience, how many of the desired viewers are on PPRUNE?
have i filmed a perfect functioning helicopter panel with all warning lights on?- i sure have! why? ... just looks better...
and i watched the lost episode too... it made my pilot heart puke and my movie heart laugh...
