Data Logger

Not sure if this has been discussed before. But, as an owner who rents to a school, im interested to find a data logger for my machine to capture important information (overpitching, throttle open starts and correct warm up and cool down procedures etc). I dont need a display, I'm thinking more along the lines of a unit which has a USB port to download to a laptop now and then.

Does anyone know of such a product??

Yep-the 407 has this function, built into the Fadec I believe.

Check out Appareo Systems in USA who can supply a form of data logger that is built into their satellite asset tracker system.

That Perkins kit sounds like the business.

But can you connect it to a piston engine? It only seems to pick up torque, turbine temperature, compressor rpm etc

The Data Logger bit is the easy bit, I could spin you up some software and hardware here in a day or so, but, how do you actually connect it to the airframe / engine combination? does this mean the aircraft certification will be changed???

Some comment (well from an Aussie perspective anyway) about the Perkins gear here ATSB Australia

The issue would be that it is Non TSO or STC'ed.

data logger

hi

I have one on my Hungariain Allouette II

may need certification if on a G reg aircraft

GPS track, altitude, speed, throtle, start and shutdown times

acurate usage records

does not account for pilots view of the world, but does enable comparison between booked hours and flights

views in Google Earth (3D), excel data tables (record per sec) and 10,000 flying hours permanant logs - great for maintenance

cheap (less than £200) - how do you fit it ? - minor mod? - caa approval ?

email [email protected] for more info
