From my limited experience of helmets, buy from a mate or buy new. Helmets can be seriously degraded by a previous impact, and it is very difficult to tell if it has had such damage.
That said, this is risk assessment on your part. It will be good enough to stop you banging your head against the tail skid on the walkaround, but in the unlikely event that you need that 9G protection, it may not be enough.
You get what you pay for, and there is no free lunch.

Nothing wrong with 2nd Hand!
G'Day,
Yoobeedo, keep an eye for an SPH5 Upgraded with PNR. I just got a new Alpha so it is surplus to my needs. Never been dropped! Been meaning to give it a go on E-Bay.

I bought 2nd hand helmets on Ebay and was not disappointed; just get pictures, history and see what the seller is like with his rating and membership.
I have 1 SPH4 XL White owned from new, a 2nd hand refurbished SPH5 XL White, and a HGU56P M white, all 3 for sale, as I now only use my ANR DC H20
Cheers
