Here is a bit more on the subject from a pretty good website:

"In spite of a number of variations in the different models of Lycoming power plants, there are some general recommendations on leaning offered for Lycoming piston engines except those with an Automatic Mixture Control (AMC) such as the Hiller UH12E, Bell 47 etc."
