Old topic, new threads

Just curious why you folks across the pond are so quick to close what you
think are redundant threads. As things change in the industry, why cut
off threads rather than just let them run their limited course and maybe
we can all learn something? I'm speaking specifically of the young man
wanting info on employment with 400 hours. Someone complains it has
been covered "many, many, many,... times before" and then Thread
Closed. What's up with that? I'm sure it has been covered, but in 2003.

helonorth,

On the premise that I'm the "folks across the pond (which pond?)", I closed the thread to which you referred and redirected the poster to existing thread(s) on the same subject. Resurrecting old threads often teaches more to new guys than letting a new one drift into nothing, as they read advice from those who have left & moved on, or read of forgotten nuggets that may not come up again. The more you (and I) work in this industry, the more we become aware of the wealth of knowledge that sometimes doesn't get passed on.

Hopefully, PPRuNe can do a little toward correcting this over the years
