Joystick - Force Spring Gradient / Trimming

Sorry if this sounds a little 'anorakish' or 'anal' but I'm trying to keep the old IR skills reasonably practised (for free) and my arm is aching !!!

I wonder if anyone out there could offer me a little advice re setting up a joystick for Flight Sim 04 or FSX. I'm trying to figure out if it is possible to set up the joystick with some kind of Force Spring Gradient equivalent. E.g - I want to be able to trim out an attitude in the heli so that it balances with less resistance from the internal springs. I have never used a Force Feedback joystick and wonder if one of these has the functionality to re-datum the joystick in flight.

I've tried using the 'elevator trim up & down' function by assigning to a couple of buttons but it clearly is not programmed into the helicopter flight model - certainly not on FSX anyway.

If any of you out there are managing to achieve this I'd love to know how.

Thanks,
