Published: Thursday, October 04, 2007

A helicopter crash near the small Labrador community of Postville has left the aircraft's lone pilot dead. RCMP Sergeant Wayne Newell said police received a call from a resident of the town who witnessed thecrashat about 10:30 a.m. The helicopter, owned by Newfoundland Helicopters Ltd. of Clarenville and contracted to Bayswater Uranium Corp., had come in contact with a helicopter from another private company doing work in the area that was carrying a sling of supplies. The Newfoundland Helicopters aircraft crashed about 400 metres from the Postville government wharf. The other helicopter made a landing in the same area, Sgt. Newell said, but did not crash. An RCMP boat and plane, along with a Cormorant helicopter from 5 Wing Goose Bay, similar to the one pictured, were also dispatched to the scene.
