Helideck Lighting
I've just been through ICAO Annex 14, Volume II, the ICAO Heliport Manual, CAP 437 and the OGP Offshore helideck review checklist. All state that the perimeter lighting on Helidecks should be yellow, but we are now seeing decks with green perimeter lights. Does anyone have a reference for this change? Thanks.

Skidsock,
Check that you have 5th edition of CAP 437:
http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/CAP437.PDF
search for 'lighting'; you will find the text you are looking for (Chapter 4 Page 8) - and additional references.

Green is a much better colour and there is a program to replace the yellow lights.
There are also trials going on the Thames Platform with lights embedded in the "H" and I think the circle which really helps with depth perception.

I find that green lights are a fantastic idea, makes spotting the helipad at night an awful lot easier, they dont glare as much either. from what i can remember alot of the rigs in the Dutch sector use green lighting and it makes night deck landings a little less challenging.

see here for more details on the requirement for green helideck lights:
http://www.hse.gov.uk/foi/internalop.../spctosd29.pdf
Green perimeter lighst will be mandatory, but I'm not sure if it's by the start or end of 2008 (Stage 1).
There will also be a further requirement to have an illuminated 'H' (Stage 2). As far as I'm aware no vendor has approved lighst available (yet) to meet this requirement.
