Cool August 2007 calendar

This month’s calendar comes courtesy of Mike Hill: a dramatic shot of a Royal Navy Merlin HM.1 of 829 NAS, and a Sea King HC.4 of 846 NAS participating in the Commando Assault finale at this years 2007 Yeovilton Air Day on the 7th July.

As always, click on the thumbnail to open a higher resolution full picture, then right click to select "Set as Background" - for Windows users, that is.

Looks like the 3rd machine in the formation isn't doing too well!! What was it?

That was my first thought anyway.

This is a trick question isn't it? The first one is 20 years old, the second one is 45 years old, then the third one must have been .................?

Now that is a good picture!

No doubt more effective than the traditional chaff/flare DAS.

Scary

Took part in many commando assaults, both at Yeovilton Air Day and other places. Aircrewman Instructor on 707 for the Wessie 5 /Sea King 4 conversions and it really brings it home seeing the August calendar phot just how far we've come. The SK4 looks like an antique compared to the Merlin. I trained on Wessex Mk1's progressing quickly to Mk 5's (still map and eyeball) to the Mk 4 with VOR/DME/ILS/TANS etc. which at the time was absolutely cutting edge. I feel older.... yes older... yes older....
