Re: Running costs on R22 / Enstrom 280fx

Hi - does anyone have an idea of running costs for the above?

Cheers

It all depends on the hours you are going to do in a year, fixed costs for enstrom are about 4k hangar, 5k insurance, 1ltr/min fuel, servicing approx 1.5k.
Then you have parts to replace when hours are up - big advantage over the R22 though is no callandar life exept lamaflex bearings, so if you are only doing 50 hrs a year, the Enstrom will hold its value very well and therefore almost no depreciation.

It uses a bit more fuel than the R22 but is a much bigger machine and can carry bags in the back, a much more usable machine for going anywhere for a weekend etc.

Oh did I add that its a lot safer & has fuel injection so no no carb icing - worth adding to the equation if you have loved ones in it!
