Add ratings to FAA PPL rotary
I hold a current FAA PPL certificate with rotorcraft rating and would like to add the airplane rating(ASEL) on the basis of my current JAR PPL Aeroplanes(SEP). I guess only a Flight test is required without any need for visas and/or TSA process. Has anyone the full answer to this or a pointer to where I may find the answer? I have searched here, in FAR/AIM but may not be seeing the wood for the trees.

The answer is more complicated than you think. If your FAA license is unrestricted, as in NOT based upon a foreign license, then you can NOT add to it unless you do the flight test. You would be issued a separate license based upon your foreign, thereby giving you two licenses.
If however the license you hold is based upon a foreign license then you can add to it.
See FAR 61.75

Gordy,
Very many thanks for that. The licence is unrestricted and not based on a foreign licence so I need to study the info you have given. At a quick glance I appear to meet the requirements for issue and wil need to take the flight test after finding a CFI to check my documents and log book. It appears that instruction from ICAO country military and civilian instructors may be acceptable for much of what is required. Anyway, more study needed as I am not sure I want to go through the visa and TSA stuff again.
