Site near Elstead / Milford Surrey

Need to pick up someone near the Hankley DZ over the easter weekend. I doubt if its even worth asking to use the DZ itself(?) but anyone give me a contact for a possible site in the area.

It's worth a shot but give Surrey Police a call?

Believe it or not, you'd be amazed how the police service in thr UK raise additional funds in order to finance projects, operations, initatives, etc even though they are Government/Council tax funded.

Surrey Police have a good landing facility which often caters for their own ASU and in the past I have heard of other police services within the country that allow private helicopters to land on their property for a small fee.

Surrey Police HQ is located at Mount Brown, which is just to the southwest of Guildford City Centre and within a couple of miles of your intended destination.

Give them a call (Tel:0845 125 2222) and see what they say?
If you don't ask you don't get!

What are you going to be flying, cholmondeley?

Looking at aerial shots of the site (and the 'H' on the back lawn - courtesy of local.live.com) it looks like it could be quite tight for a single, especially an R22...

Best of luck.

I am afraid it is an R22 and having spoken to someone else who used it they agree-it is rather marginal. However they suggested a private strip just to the north-west of the helipad which looks to be more within my capabilities. Many thanks to all for the help and advice.

Yes, that private strip would be ideal. The approaches are OK and there is plenty of space, unfortunately I have lost the contact details for it though.

I would not hold out much hope for landing at Surrey Police HQ. Their helicopter is based at Fairoaks. Unless things have changed they have trouble getting permission to land their own hele there...........

Slightly off thread, but I've modified the landingsites page to include a link to local live for a given lat long, thanks indirectly for the idea.

No worries. We've been using a combination of multimap, Google Earth and local.live for pre-departure site recce's ever since they came on to the market.
