All depends....
From FAA/JAA to Aus - look on the CASA website and it will tell you everything you need to know. Looking under "Converting overseas licences".
On the other hand, if you want to convert an Aus licence to JAA, you can't do it in Australia. Save up your money and head on over to Europe and be prepared for 9 or 13 exams (depending on if you want CPL or ATPL), some flying training (decided by a helicopter training organisation), a flight test and (if you want an ATPL), start your instrument training.
Seems a little lop-sided don't you think????

To make swallowing the pill easier, if you have an ATPL with 1000 hours on multi-pilot helicopters, and 500 on the m/e type you want on your licence, you are exempt the need to prove training and the TRTO course.

WAAC in perth, offer CASA conversions to JAR but not FAA
i too would like some information on converting a CASA ATPL to FAA
it would seem CASA ATPL means squat, it's JAR/FAA or nothing.
