Distance learning school ATPL(H)
Because of my job, I'm very busy...I would like to take the ATPL(H), but the best way for me is to use a distance learning school...So, I'm looking for a school for ATPL(H), more particularly in Europe, which propose, not only a distance learning courses but the means to have the test done online too.Otherwise, if not, you can propose some schools in other countries...Thx by advance...

I have a passing recollection there was somewhere where you could, but you had to sit in an exam room to do it, so it was just the same as filling in those luvverly exam answer sheets in a HB-pencil-with-erasor-attached.

Bristol ground school sounds like the one for you (www.bristol.gs). Distance learning, all progress tests are done on your PC (you only send the results occasionally).
Of course you still have to sit the exams at one of 4 places though

If because of your job your really busy then Ground Training Services (www.gtserv.co.uk) sound like the one for you. Individual tuition and small classes rather than a 'sausage machine' (and you get to learn the stuff from some of the industries longest serving players).
This is where people from the other schools go to learn what they did not learn.
a very busy h-r

I know what you're thinking!!!...
...This is just another post requesting info on how to become a pilot. Not exactly!!
I've been through the all the posts relating to commercial training and with no options left I am afraid it's another training question.
I have a ppl(h) and have recently decided to go for it and get these commercial exams out of the way.
Now with many friends having just completed the Bristol ATPL course I have heard only excellent feedback. But with the line of work i may enter into, and the area of the industry in which my interests lie, i'm only looking at Commercial exams initially.
The problem is that Bristol only do an ATPL course. I havn't yet discovered wheather or not the CAA will allow me to prescribe to the ATPL course, but only sit the exams that apply to CPL theory. Any suggestions?
Apparently the school accelling in CPL theory is Dragon, but while Bristol have exam sittings in Glasgow, Dragon only sit at Gatwick, a little further from up in the Highlands.
Quite a quandry. I'm sure many will advise just to get on with ATPL instead. Sound advice as I've been told but with no apparent future in flying Super Pumas North Sea, I'd really like to get my commercial, stat, and get flying!!
All contributions welcome and very much appreciated.
Thanks. oscar22

Not only is there Dragon and paco's course (which does look quite good!), there is also Atlantic Flight Training in Conventry who offer CPL(H) ground school; it is however, more fixed wing based!!
As far as I know, all the CPL exams have to be taken at Gatwick and they are only run every two months, instead of monthly like ATPL. When I sat mine, there were people who came down from Scotland so I don't believe there's an alternative (unless this has changed in the last couple of months).
CPL/ATPL debate? Clue - I did CPL. Wish I hadn't now; should've done ATPL.
The saving is four exams (9 CPL; 13 ATPL). ATPL for example has Gen Nav and Radio Nav as two separate subjects. If, say, you were weak at one of those, you could pass the other whereas for CPL, the two are lumped together so any weakness in one area could let you down.
Secondly, the syllabus is not that much shorter than ATPL so one has to learn almost as much stuff but over fewer exams.
Cheers

Paco, you forgot E&OE!!!

Is There Only 1 Uk Approved Jaa Course Outside Uk
hi, I'm dead keen to do my ppl and cpl. I'm currently living in the uk but want to get abroad and do a fast track uk JAA aproved course. As you can imagine its a bit of a maze out there, with people telling me different things. If anyone could give me a bit of info, I'd be very gratefull. Is it mportant that i get a Uk JAA license, I dont want to come back and live in europe straight away but will eventually. Dose anyone know of any schools that offer it, i've only found one but i'm guessing there must be more.
Cheers for any help you can give.

ATPL Distance Learning
Hi Guys,
Hoping to start my ATPL(H) distance learning in January. Anyone with any recommendations as far as schools are concerned. I'm thinking about Bristol or Cranfield, but would like to hear any other opinions.....

Bristol has a very good reputation and I've never heard a bad word said against them. However, if I were to do the exams again (heaven forbid!), I'd go to Caledonian Advanced Pilot Training.

Another vote for Caledonian.
Be warned, at the time of writing, if you go with Bristol, you'll be doing the transitional course, which means you'll be learning all sorts of stuff about fixed wings that doesn't really apply to helicopters. I believe this is changing sometime soon, but that's how it is now.
