Your not going to get any useful replies asking such a generic question. You have to be much more specific as to what type of flying your looking to do.

worse to pay too little. When you pay
too much, you lose a little money -
that's all. When you pay too little, you
sometimes lose everything, because
the thing you bought was incapable of
doing the thing it was bought to do.
The common law of business balance
prohibits paying a little and getting a
lot - it can't be done. If you deal with
the lowest bidder, it is well to add
something for the risk you run, and if
you do that you will have enough to
pay for something better.
There are a number of things to consider.
What do you want to do with your licence when you’ve got it? You need to do a minimum of two hours a year and pass an annual skills test. In all honesty, two hours a year is probably not enough to stay current, 12 would be more like it.
Secondly, it’s all very well to go to a cheaper school elsewhere in the country but, if you learn to fly on a different type to the ones that are locally based, then you would have to do a conversion which is a minimum of 5 hours.
There are a number of different types of helicopter on which to learn to fly and anecdotal evidence suggests that some are harder to learn on than others and hence, although they may be cheaper, it may take longer to get your licence.
A cheaper school may not get you through in as few hours as a more expensive school.
If you are prepared to go anywhere (as I am inferring that you are), then you need to factor in accommodation, travel etc. and if you do a foreign licence, you need to consider the cost of conversion to a UK licence.
If you check out the website of the main General Aviation magazines, they have lists of schools (and publish them with their magazines once a year) which will detail hourly rates etc.
Beware of paying a lump sum in advance to any school even if you get a better rate; flying schools can easily go bust and then they’ve got your money! I heard yesterday of a school in financial difficulty so it does happen.

South Africa is the Cheapest with no hidden costs try.....
South Africa don't be taken in about the America its all marketing (and there the masters of that!! hidden cost's everywhere!) Jnc Helicopters in Durban charges are 130 quid thats with instructor, hour building even cheaper!!!! check out the 5* accomodation from 22 quid a night and is 5 min walk from Airfield, The licensing is CAA has well which is a big bonus!!! best of Luck!!

Most important, use this Forum to find out about the school that you are interested in going to.
