the pilot of the mil is viacheslav vereshchinskiy an obviously russian friend who was flying in yemen.

he is also the pilot of the mil that crashed onto the side of the mountain when a turban went through an engine, (another thread). he is now in kazachskij, (kazachstan), flying a b3 on hunting safaris.

Link to the 'crash' thread HERE.

If you didn't see it when first posted, it's well worth reading - an amazing story with a miraculous ending!!

Thank you for a great pic, I agree, substance always wins over style. And I like the international flavor of the calender. Merci beaucoup!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi All

Just picked up on this thread

Yep - flew XW895 on a few occasions in 1979- including May 2 with "donny O", June 14 with DH and also solo, passed my IHT in her, took part in AirDay Balbo in her with DH again, and lastly strapped into her for my Captaincy Check with "Barry B" July 31 st.

Seem to recall we had to collect "4 Star General" from HMS Raleigh Helipad, then find a tactical landing site near Bodmin, then "expanding square" search over Lizard before hurtling around Zennor needing to twitch the collective a tad to clear the dry stone walls ! Awesome.

MD600 ?

I now live just down the road from Tadcaster - what I wouldn't give to have another "go" in this fabulous machine.
I do however promise to fly her in a more sedate manner !!

Here's hopefully !

Wondering about international things. How come all English (and now French or Spanish) calendars start with Sunday? In Sweden our calendars weeks starts with monday.

Is there a good reason for this except long tradition?

Cheers!

Tradition is mostly the reason, but there is some data to consider. The bible declares the sabbath to be the last day of the week. From other sources, it appears that at the time of Christ the sabbath corresponds with our Saturday. The Russian word for Tuesday (вторник) means second, indicating a history of starting the week with Monday. Other languages follow this as well.

To set things straight, ISO created the standard, ISO-8601, that among other things, set the first day of the week to be Monday.

Now I know why I am a helicopter pilot and not an astronaut!

Damn! I knew there was something wrong with that calendar, it comes from doing it at 0300 after a days work, sorry.

Domingo
Lunes
Martes
Miercoles
Jueves
Viernes
Sabado

Congratulations to pilot Pete Barnes and paramedic Kevin Hodgson for taking the initiative.

Helicopters get more than enough negative publicity. On this occasion, most of the UK national newspapers ran the story, all praising the crew.

Good to see some positive PR for the industry for a change.
