AMS at FACT

The AMS have their own base at FACT.

You can see CHC's Bell 212 in the background just retuned from The Artic.

Birdstrike

Birdstrike with a stork

EMS helicopter from Salamanca base, Spain. You can see the remains on the left of the helicopter. It just struck the top of the head of the pilot. Blood went all the way to the back of the helicopter. The helicopter dove rapidly and the medical crew in the back could not see if the blood was from the pilot or the bird. Nobody was seriously injured and the helicopter landed safely.

ToTall,

That world record heli went down in Morocco later that year. All escaped with their lives but the machine went up in flames. The locals in the area then took whatever was left of it...

Heliskiing

It started as a joke among some Navypilots after a couple of beers during a Squadron Party, followed by some trials and hard training and ended up as a highlight on an Airshow of the German Naval Airwing 5 in the 1980s.
BTW, one of the Pilots in the Helicopter was from the British Royal Navy.

They ARE the bait - they are shark fishing. (Really used to upset the winchman when I told him that).

I've landed a couple of times on the Burj Al Arab helipad. Best get yourself into wind on final and be prepared for some turbulance if the wind is from the northwest, which puts you on the lee side of the "sail". The landing fees are Dhs 4K which is US$ 1086.95 per time. Not that that's a big deal, the customer pays any way. Departing is interesting, coming off the pad puts you at approximately 700' asl.
