Favour to ask....
Is there any one from Gamston EGNE on this forum?, if so I wonder if I might ask a favour. One of my daughters, age 4 1/2, would like a look inside a helicopter, type not important, but if its 'Barbie pink', so much the better!
Basically she asked me, (coz dad works with planes), and she enjoyed Waddington airshow so much, if she could see 'where does the man sit to drive it?'.

What a great request, I have a shot of my 2 1/2 year old daughter sitting in the first flight S-76 back in 1977 that I cherish!
Please be sure that your daughter knows that many smart girls also sit in that front seat and drive their aircraft!

My youngest had the intricates of the instruments explained to him by a very nice techie.
So well, he went to school and told everyone, now hooked he has promised he will own one by the age of 18!
Fantastic memory for any child. Apologise for thread creep.But any operator I am sure may be happy to obligue if asked nicely!

A few weeks ago a couple turned up at the flying school with their little lad, six years old that day, and helicopter mad. Could we give him a pleasure flight that day? We couldn't, but I said he could come out with me and see the R22. He was over the moon. He refused to hold his parents' hands airside, but was delighted to hold mine. He was so quiet and good that I lifted him into the right hand seat, let dad take some photos, and told him in simple terms what the controls did. He loved it....in fact I think I may have got myself a student....in about ten years.
When I got back from the next lesson there was a series of photos waiting for me, mounted in a transparent sleeve, with a thankyou note from the little lad. Oh, and one of his socks; they had helicopters on them, and he'd wanted to show them to me and had forgotten, so he gave me one!
He took up the only break I managed to get that day, but it was well worth it.
So if you want to bring your daughter up to Sheffield, and a green R22 will do, send me a pm.
And then you won't need to tell her that girls can fly helicopters; she'll have proof. After all, there are three female instructors at Sheffield.

Whirlybird, many thanks for your kind offer, Sheffield is quite near for me so it would be very nice for my daughter to come and have a look. I'll send a pm to arrange a convenient time for you. The kids have just started summer holidays now so with me doing shift work too, there should be a window somewhere!
Gaseous, again many thanks for your kind offer too it was very much appreciated.
Both my daughters are aware that women play a part in aviation, as mum works in aviation engineering, but no harm in showing them a wider range of opportunities, and thanks to those offering encouragement too, its nice to see.

Today VA gave me a call to let me know they were refuelling locally. Got the girls bundled into the car and they were very pleased to get a good look round a very pretty helicopter.

Many thanks VA they havent stopped talking about it, and first job returning home was ringing mum to tell her!

Yes one of my favorite snaps is of number one daughter sitting in bell 47 G5 at about three months headset on, (ahem - 31 years ago - cough cough) right on top of it she was. her younger brother is now guilty of beating the air into submission.

I'm off to work now to give rides to families of our employees. Once a year we do this, for morale.
The best helicopter ride for my son was on the day of his birth. S76 Medevac to a Neo-natal ICU. He didn't enjoy it much, but because of that success he's been able to log about 8 hours in the last five years.

It is always nice when you get a smile from the young ones for as little as showing them your helicopter.
I put my 1 1/2 year old son in the left seat in my Schweizer 300C and to my surprise he grabbed both the collective and cyclic and started making "brumm brumm" engine sounds with a smile all over his face! It is in the genes... (I still make those sounds myself)
Hey Blender, how long time did it take you to retune the radios on the 212 after your son finished having a go at them?
