That ranks up there as the ugliest helicopter I have ever seen...

It certainly doesn't look very sleek and aerodynamic...

It may look ugly...
But my front seat trip in one was quite the eye opener. Not a murmur of protest from the engines or airframe while the pilot did some pretty fast spot turns in 30 knots of wind. Rock solid and very very robust. They learned lessons in Afghanistan, just like the US learned lessons in Vietnam.
Systems at the time (1994) were pretty primitive, but they were using radar for their anti-tank missiles long before Longbow - this new radar is probably more capable.
I think the cockpit is armored for 20mm.

There's still a couple of free surfaces they could bolt some kitchen sinks onto . . .

The one I saw had a small hatch in the port side of the tail, with a handle on both sides, with a compartment just about big enough for another crew. I always thought that was a nice touch for an instant evac of your downed buddy.

Too much Money ?

It begs the question , say I had an extra $20m to pop on this Helicopter & remembering it costs $12- $15m ( taking into account fuel, mars bars and beer money ) , and I am not deemed a bad guy to the nation I reside or the one building such a helo , Could I infact buy something like this all legal like?

There are so many neat MIL a/c that could be a great heap of fun & maybe even rent out to the Miitary or ...um Department of fisheries PPL making sure that everyone has their fishing permits .... or even to the parking meter PPL.

LOL ahhh dreams , but I just wondered why someone ( I am assuming there isnt ) with tons of money and is a helicopter enthusiast hasnt bought their own or if in fact could they?

Dreams !

Lifted from a Mil Aircrew thread: own your own fully-functional gunship, as approved by the NRA. (3.9MB WMV file)

Alternately you could find an ex-Army Cobra !

I could be wrong but why do the Americans think that their equipment is the best. Gunships are built, not for beauty but to do a job!!!. And I like the look of this mean machine, it makes a clear statement about it's ability. ' Don't mess with me'

Head Turner: There seems to be some missconception that Russian stuff is dodgy. On fark.com, someone posted a video of the Mi-8/17 that had trouble getting out of ground effect at a high altitude, and made some kind of "what would you expect from a Russian built machine" remark.

Besides, the world needs some big, ugly, brutish-looking helis.

Not much difference in reality....and as Ben Franklin so aptly stated about the fairer sex...."In the dark, all cats are gray."

I'm not so sure about that. One looks like some kind of insect, the other looks like the big bad wolf. It looks like they took the plans from the Apatche then just went totally berserk!
