HEMS working schemes
Hi,
Is there anybody out there who could shear some information on what kind of working schemes /rosters the big HEMS companies are using in Europe. To be more precise I'm interested to know how Standby Duty is counted towards Annual Working Time?

It certainly is an issue with SAR operators as most FTL schemes are close to the 2000h limit if standby duty is counted in full. The Department of Transport has issued the following recommendation:

At the moment it looks as though standby duty is fully accountable towards the 2000h yearly total. The recommendation however is to align the directive with CAP371 which in certain circumstances will half duty spent on standby.

I just did a fast calculation and got that you are ruffly getting 180 duty hours a month (28 days). This 180 hrs x11 would give 1980 hrs so just under the 2000 hour limit.
How many crews do you need to run one HEMS helicopter and do you are stanby 24/7?

Do you know what the status is of the Departemnt of Transports recommendation?
It looks like there are a mismatch in some European countries between the national legislation and the EU directive which states that "some of the stanby duty time should be calculated as working time".
