Look it up on www.caa.co.za. On the front page there is a link to validating a foreign licence. Alternatively speak to Claudia at the caa - 011 5451257. She deals with foreign licences.

Yep, just head on over. When you get there, make sure you are wearing a Springbok shirt, carrying a six-pack of Castle lager, and say "is it" after anyone makes a statement, or "shame" about anything negative.
Make constant references to this being a "building year" for the Springbok, and last years losses to the All Blacks was due to dodgy refereeing...
you should fit right in...

If your planning on staying SA License will be the way to go, but if you dont know, then suggest you look at a Validation. CAA= Money, time, check rides testing, etc. Do things as easy as you can until you know exactly what you need.

Also, start every conversation with "howzit!", and make sure you demand a "braai" every time the weather is nice. Or when it's crap. Or any other time.

Also impress them with the knowledge that you know every single person in South Africa by refering to everyone as 'this Oak', 'that Oak' and 'an Oak I used to know / work with'. Works every time... brilliant.

... and throw in the word "lekker" to describe everything good. e.g. 'That was a "lekker" boerewors-roll.' or 'Jislaaik, but that was n "lekker" party with "lekker" chicks.

...or "lekker soos 'n krekker!" for really good stuff.

you can also refer to your partner as your 'bokkie'. Don't refer to your hosts as 'rock spiders'.

Also confusing is that "just now" means some time in the future rather than some time in the very recent past!

Cheers

...and it definately shouldn't be confused with 'now now' or 'now'.

For a validation you'll only write airlaw, I think, but for a license you'll need a work permit, which I've heard is the major issue. Something about; why on earth you would want to take work away from the local population...
The scope for work in africa is good though, and seeing as SA pilots are getting lazy to travel abroad, there's a open door.

If a South African says to you on the Phone. "I will call you back just now or now now"
Dont sit by the phone and wait.
