UK to Africa
I am planning to fly an AS 350 from UK to Kenya, anybody out there done this recently ? I am trying to plan the best route with regard to fuel and political situations en route. I know there is a guy who does it regularly from France in a 206. Any ideas ? .....No not B.A !!

Nigel,

If you want to plan it all yourself as an exercise the CAA brought out a useful book called CAP555, I think, that gave all the overflight application contact people. However...
I used to use Mike Gray, on the Isle of Man for the Saudi clearances..and AN Aviation for Egypt clearances/handling/landing fees etc. Check on state of border between Eritrea and Ethiopia because they closed that for a bit while they were fighting. If its closed you could route via Djibouti-Dira Dawa-Addis
The route London - Troyes-Bastia-Naples- Corfu-Iraklion-Alexandria- Luxor-Jeddah-Asmara -Addis-Nairobi was well trodden by me but you will note that some of the legs require at least one 200ltr drum of Jet A1 on board and a reliable electric fuel pump! (Google - "portapump") Practice flying around at FL100 because that doesn't half help with the fuel consumption!
I'm in Oz for the moment and only just seen this..
Best of luck.
