Legit - kids' science experiment on reaction times
Hi everyone, just thought I'd pass this on, I wouldn't normally but it's kind of fun and it's legitimate, I personally know the girl that sent me the email, and she knows the kid .... you get the idea.... so go ahead and give it a go ...

Hello,
One of the 7th graders here at the school is doing a science project that has to do with reaction time and age. He needs some data. I am forwarding this email [sic] address http://www.rider2rider.com/ so you can try it and support science. It is very simple and will take you less than a minute to complete. Please forward to anyone you think will try it. Let your kids try it too, mine thought it was fun.

Interestingly got 0.184 using left mouse click, but consistently over 0.2 using enter key with longer travel.

Coming up against the half century. Might have been quicker but I had to pop out for a while..
Had another go, slightly better: 0.16279999999999997

It appears to have a fatal flaw: the speed and type of connection! Wireless laptop, average well over 1 second.
Broadband desktop using wireless mouse, about 0.3 sec average
Broadband desktop using space bar, about 0.23 sec average
Then again, Desperate Housewives was on TV when I was on the laptop

Good point John - a wireless mouse could offer a delay to the PC and therefore point to a factor that hasn't been accounted for - or it could be that the original hypothesis is correct...
