Mexican drug-eradication helicopter crashes after being shot at by unidentified assailants

By: Associated Press

MEXICO CITY -- A Mexican federal drug-eradication helicopter crashed in the Pacific coast state of Guerrero on Friday after being shot at by unidentified assailants, and a second helicopter was damaged by gunfire. Neither of the two pilots was injured.

The first aircraft crashed when it was trying to move away from an area where gunmen began firing at it, the federal Attorney General's Office said in a news release.

The pilot, Arturo Enrique Dominguez, was able to make it out of the helicopter on his own. He was picked up by the second chopper, and though he showed no apparent physical injuries, was brought to the city of Zihuatanejo for a medical examination as a precaution.
