Commercial Ops/planning/finance operator

Also posted on next forum!

Have spent some time searching for software that will cover my needs as a small commercial pilot helicopter operator (5ft 10.5") - There's some great software out there for the bigger establishments - along with the bigger price tags.
Was mulling this over with one of our groups' computer wizards when he said that he could write a program for me - however, if there was a demand for it, then obviously the cost could be spread out.

Firstly - Have I missed a piece of software aimed at the operator of a couple of aircraft (helo or fixed-wing) that encompasses ops/planning/finance aspects?

Secondly - Would you be interested in such software and what would you like to be included?

I realise that there are some great programs out there that cover the individual aspects of commercial ops etc but that's not what I'm after and, quite honestly, will just soldier on with my homemade excel-based solutions until a bespoke solution is available.

The market is very small, and programmers almost never finish on time - do not pay one to do some software - learn programming yourself, it will take just as long! I would suggest getting a look at Delphi, which is available on many magazine cover disks.

I speak as an ex tech author for a Novell-owned company!

Can I suggest you have a separate finance package. Most "all-encompassing" systems I have seen have a very poor accounting module mainly because it's been written by someone who has never worked as an accountant.

If you want any advice on the various accountancy software packages around for the small business, please PM me (as, if nothing else, I wouldn't want to be seen as advertising). I have worked with most of them and I would say that there is one system that stands above the others!

Cheers

we've got a Romanian friend who's a computer whizz. He'd do it for £20, and on time!

Thanks for that Floppy!

Thanks for the input - realise that maybe lumping everything together is not always suitable but -
I've discovered that our Group not only has the software writing expertise but also, they work extremely closely with the accounts department -who use 'Herb' ;-)software.
Their record is good so that is why I'm asking what would people want on it.......I'm probably going to commission them anyway......just wondered if anybody wanted 'in' at the start?

"Herb" software is what I had in mind and I understand that it is relatively easy to get other packages to talk to it and vice versa!

Cheers
