Thanks Cape Town water-bombers!

One really big cheer for the Cape Town helicopter water-bombing crews. Three Mi8s and a Kamov - dunno who the crews are, but whatever they're paying them it isn't enough. Hope they didn't have any last-minute Xmas shopping to do.

All today they've been water-bombing the mountain fires above Camps Bay, and on the front of the mountain on India Buttress, refilling from the reservoirs just above my house.

This is very impressive flying, with the southeaster gusting hard, a water pickup in a congested urban area with highrises, and mountain buttresses round the corner of the Table face with nasty updrafts and a lot of smoke and the cableway wires lying in wait. And don't bump into your buddy....

Damn fine show fellers - hope you have a few beers to ease those parched throats tonight and thanks for keeping us safe.
