Single engine across water? Not sure whether you wanted opinions on doing it, or which heli.
Wear a life-jacket
Cross at the shortest point
Fly high
Fly from ship to ship (within reason)
Go for it!
Despite the inevitable 'auto-rough' the moment you cross the coast, the engine doesn't know it's over water.
Heli type?
The one with floats!
I'd say the one you feel safest in over land. I leave it to the professionals to comment on their 'ditching' characteristics!

Enjoy your flight.
BTW, if you go to Le Touquet, the restaurant at the Perard fishmonger is superb. It looks scruffy, but don't be put off.

Single Engine across Water!?! Advice would Depend on wheter you're doing it as Private or Commercial?

Private - Plan, Plan and Plan. Make sure you have Life jackets, Raft if possible, flares, and all the other common sense bits.

Commercial - forget it. JAR-OPS effectively lets you get 7NM out from the coast and then you have to turn back. Oh, and thats if you're all in Survival suits, have floats, liferaft, ELT, Emergency Exit Lighting (on a Robinson!?!) .....

If you want to speak to someone who does it regularly in Robinsons call Aileen or Neil at Heli-air, Denham. (01895) 835333. Always organising trips away to the continent. Even taken a large group across to Norway to fly up the Fjords.

Single engine over water?

Land on a ferry, wander round to the bar, stay there until you get to the other side, and set off again. The ferry ticket's probably cheaper than the fuel anyway.

something sensible, at
least you won't be boring

To GO AROUND

One thing I have to add, is be prepared for loss of horizon/disorientation if you fly any distance over water(ie out of sight of land)in certain weather conditions (a nice flying day on land can be terrible over water, ie calm and hazy, with no/few waves their can be little or no horizon.)If I am stating the obvious please excuse me, but if you haven't experienced it can catch you out!(even when you know about it it can be quite disconcerting!)

Before flying over water, ask yourself how long you would last if immersed at that water temperature and is the risk worth it/required?
